Overall Goal:For our Pasifika students to enjoy a high-quality
education, in a caring and supportive environment, where
they are able to experience successful outcomes and reach
their full potential as proud Pasifika people.

Mana Mokopuna – placing the learner at the heart

  • Include tasks where students can work in pairs or small groups
  • Remember to give positive feedback as well as critical feedback so students can extend themselves
  • Make instructions clear and precise; verbally say them and write them up to cover different types of learners
  • In class, if we see one of our Pasifika students with their hand up at any time, try to get round to them, if at all practical, at least once during the lesson to see if they are coping with the task
  • Be aware that a high portion of our Pasifika Senior students have reservations about seeking help; hence, if practical, try to 'check in' to see how their work is going
  • Where-ever possible use practical activities and tasks that are relevant to students or they have an interest in
  • When possible, use ‘real situations’ to teach a concept, and aim to use Pasifika related information

Mana Tangata – recognising that relationships are critical to effective practice
  • Speak to your Pasifika students about their interests outside of school
  • Interact with your Pasifika students at least once in your lesson

Mana Wairua – spiritual and holistic well-being
  • Use Pasifika greetings and other Pasifika words in the classroom
  • Pasifika students love to feel successful in class; praise here will go a long way for their confidence and self-belief
